SHIP & SHORE FEST SETS SAIL AUGUST 13-15
NEW BUFFALO, MI - The New Buffalo Ship & Shore Festival began as a small arts and crafts fair 26 year ago. Since then, it has evolved into an annual, three-day, signature event in downtown New Buffalo, located in Southwest Michigan.
Presented by Four Winds Casino and the New Buffalo Business Association, Ship & Shore Festival is a unique summertime tradition on Whittaker Street where the road is closed down to vehicles but opened to everyone in the community for arts, crafts, games, live music, and more! The event is perfect for the entire family, whereby kids will enjoy competing in the watermelon eating or ice-cream eating contests, getting face-paintings or playing carnival games. Parents can browse the artistry of local arts-and-craft vendors while sipping on varietals from Round Barn Winery and Free Run Cellars as they showcase mouthwatering micro-brews, sangria and regional wines. Food vendors will include a wide range of cuisines from Burgers to Greek to Bar-B-Que!
One of the most beloved family-favorite elements of the fest is the Lighted Boat Parade and fireworks display on Saturday evening where participants transform their floating pleasure boats, cruisers, and yachts into illuminated spectacles! Immediately following the parade, Casey’s Bar and Grill is presenting a fireworks show over the lake that will absolutely light up the night sky.
With a suggested donation of only $5 for admission, even those on a budget can still come out and join the fun.

Opera at the Acorn's 2010 season begins June 5 with a visit to the Russia of Glinka, Tchaikovsky, and Rachmaninoff. Vickers art exhibit: PATSY PRESENTS - “you can never hold back spring”
Art on Exhibit: April 5-26, 2010 Reception: April 10 - Saturday - 1:00-3:00 (MI time)The brainchild of joshua wayne hensley & emily trimboli-hensley, "patsy presents" is a (dis)organization dedicated to creative living & expression through the arts. We are joined in this show by some of our friends and family in exploring the theme of "spring."
Late this winter Joshua and I watched the film, "The Tiger In The Snow" that featured a live performance of the song "You Can Never Hold Back Spring" by Tom Waits. We were inspired by the theme's in this film and the lyrics of that beautiful song. The main character in the film is a poet who follows the woman he loves to war torn Baghdad where he finds her in a coma. It is loosely based on the story of "Sleeping Beauty". There is a surrealist dream sequence in the film where Tom Waits is sitting at a piano during a wedding singing the song, "You Can Never Hold Back Spring".    The song & the film really encompass the theme of Hope and Renewal in the midst of tragedy and loss, and finding Life and Joy even in the midst of great change & challenge. Though the work in this show is not literally related to the film or the song - we hope that indirectly the themes & vibes have trickled into this show.
You will see an exploration of these themes through a variety of mediums and outsider art techniques with a few fine art pieces thrown in for good measure.

Google recently announced it is planning to test ultra-high speed broadband networks in one or more trial cities across the country. The ultra-high speed broadband networks have the promise of delivering Internet speeds of more than 100 times faster than what most Americans have access to currently. According to the city of Grand Rapids, Google is asking local governments and residents to express their interest in the fiber optic trial and to provide information about their community by completing an online request for information form. Construction of the museum building is scheduled to begin in March.

Community Thanksgiving Service will be held on November 24th, at 7 pm in the cafeteria of New Buffalo High School/Middle School located at 1112 E. Clay Street. Local participating churches include First United Methodist Church, Lighthouse Village Church of God, Living Way Foursquare Church, St. John United Church of Christ, and St. Mary of the Lake Roman Catholic Church. An offering will be received in support of the Good Samaritan Fund. This fund helps transient and local people in need of basic necessities, such as food, fuel, shelter, and transportation. St. Mary of the Lake School Rummage Sale November 14, from 9 am to 3 pm in the Oselka Gym at the school,704 West Merchant Street in New Buffalo.
